First of all I want to warn you that my English is very basic but I'll try to make me understand.
I tell you I have my Austin since 2003 and was my daily use car until in 2009 broke the engine in a ride of a classic car club in my country.
After that I bought a "new" engine which I am restoring now.
No more bored with stories, photos now

OUCH

Not seen a conrod through the side of an engine for some years, and that was in a lorry (truck) in my army days in the 1960's

Is the climate kinder to the cars than the UK, less rust problems ?

Roger

Hello Roger, rust problems in the coastal zone are the same or worse than in the UK, but in the rest of the country the car is well preserved.

I leave some more pictures of the process and parts

Some nice work there.

Gives me the feeling of needing another project.

Noticed the black rotor arm, I see it's a genuine part but be aware, and anyone else, Black 'replacement' rotor arms are a source of trouble.

They have a rivet construction through the centre and are a lot of trouble.

It has been well documented on oldclassiccars.co.uk. the red ones are the ones to get.

Sorry about that hijacking.

I have an engine I will be rebuilding in the future, the con-rod bearings are white metal, think I'll get the shell bearing conversion, and adjustable cam followers, makes it easier to set the valves

Also have been thinking I'll get the crankshaft and flywheel balanced, and also balance all the moving parts, I do a lot of mileage in the DLM and it would make things smoother, also need a four speed gearbox, less strain on the engine.

Thanks for your interest, did not know about the problem of the rotor arm, I bought this NOS item and thought it would be best.

Excuse my ignorance, but do not understand what you mean DLM.

Hi Santiago

Reference the Rotor arm, it is the new replacement rotor arms that are the problem ones.

Old NOS should be fine as they will be before the cheap replacements came on the market.

The DLM ? - as per my avatar and signature

It is a typical 1950's (1959) special, made when people used to make their own cars and at the time a lot of kit cars started to appear for people to make using old car parts.

Also in the 1950's there were a lot of one of home made cars, The DLM is a typical one off from that period.

There is a write up on here, be easier to post a link (at the end) than writing it up in here, it has a 1935 Standard 9 Chassis (heavily modified for the suspension) Standard 9 front axle, hubs and brake drums with ford 105e hydraulic brakes, the rear axle is now a Ford 100e (was a 1930's? morris? when it bought it in 1970), engine (1953) and gearbox are Ford E93a, Gear box was new / unused in 1970/71.

Everything on the car is 'made' for the car so any repairs/replacements would have to be made for it.
