| My new years resolution was to cull my fleet down to a manageable number of cars and get everything back at my own house so I might stand a chance of actually doing something with them. Working 6 days a week and being especially busy recently has meant the classics in my life are often neglected but I am determined this will no longer be the case! Sadly Tuesday saw the demise of my much loved first car (81 Saab 900 GLs) which after 6 years of sitting in pieces awaiting some work finally went to be scrapped. Im sad to see it go but I came to realise it simply wasn't going to happen and the rot it had accumulated was terminal! With one of my other saab's having been given to my mum earlier in the year, as she was without a car, and the splitting of my imp collection with my brother, him taking our turquoise Sunbeam stiletto and the Imp super project shell I now have a fleet I can care for. All rented lock up's are now gone and all cars and parts are at my house. This leaves me with my 87' Saab 900 turbo as my daily drive, my 71' land rover 2A as all round tow vehicle, parts chaser and mobile shed, my works van and my 68' Singer chamois for classic outings. Sooo with things organised I can finally turn my attention to my other Sunbeam stiletto which has been waiting unloved in a lockup for a while now! Having been partially stripped for a respray it has then sat as I have been let down consistently by a guy who owes me the work but is mugging me off! I have now found someone else to paint it and all work will commence on the 13th July. Here is how she looks at the moment: The hideous Matt green colour will be replaced by a light metallic blue which is actually the colour my old Saab used to be and is also close to an original imp colour. The black vinyl roof will remain as it is in very good condition and its quite cool. The car has no rot so hopefully all should be nice and simple. It is currently engine less as the original block is in my Singer and the replacement engine I built has been donated to my brothers stiletto so now I have to make 1 good sport engine out of this pile! I will update this as things progress. Car is sound so will get a brake overhaul, new dash and interior refresh. Also thinking of adding a bib spoiler to the front and then need to think about suitable wheels. If anybody could lend me a trailer for the 13th I would be very grateful as towing it with Shaun's dolly didn't work well due to the curved front wishbone. Im happy to pay for rental! Rich | |

| So I have brought my sunbeam back from its respray courtesy of Den and Vee's trailer! Here is a couple of pics of it before I start putting her back together. Hopefully people will agree that the new colour is better than the original green! As mentioned previously this is the colour my old Saab 900 used to be and I always liked it. It also happens to be a pretty good match for an original rootes colour. I shall start putting the lights and trim back on her from tomorrow but I have some other interior bits to do. I need to remove the dash and replace it with another I picked up and paint a few metal bits that couldn't get done at the time. Once all is done I will pop the engine in and hopefully get her going. I will continue to update as I tackle the other jobs. My eventual goal will be to band the steel wheels out but retain the stainless steel wheel trims and give the car a 1" drop all round. However if a nice set of 13" wheels comes my way I may change my mind! | |
