Tom Hi Tom No, would have loved too but not only price but would have had to fit adaptors for centre bold (knock on) and that would have bought the track out by 3 inches, 1 1/2 each side, would have been outside the wing/wheel arch. Mind you if my numbers win I could get new wings made to fit over them The rears have been trued up, and balanced, complete new fronts, heavier guage metal all round, rims, spokes and centres, centres are 8mm guage, makes tho old ones look like tinware. Plus over £?000 lighter, but what do you do Spent about £3000 on it last year so hope it will last for a couple of years more

| Mobile again
Three hits on the starter to start, first time since August,
Sticking piston on No 1 carb, gentle persuasion, wack, with the base of a hammer handle frightened it into submission.
Will have the tops of and clean them out later.
Still plenty of polishing to do yet.

| I've re-named the thread, save opening a new thread each week.(I hope not)
So the latest saga.
Over the last two or three weeks the DLM has had intermittent missfire, rough running.
No sign of the latest problem of the head gasket, we'll come to that.
Anyway it all pointed to fuel problem, intermittend misfire under power - hunting at steady throttle - sudden clearing and running fine for a couple of miles, only to repeat it all over again.
No noticable loss of power, just a pain. No overheating or other problems.
So remedials started
First I stipped, cleaned and retuned the twin SU's
Then found the fuel filter was full of crud from the tank so flushed through the fuel system, tank out and washed, air line through the pipes.
Both times it ran better round the village, couple of miles, only to repeat as I drove into the close.
New plugs - same,
new points - same,
new condencer - same,
Then it seemed to settle down, so off to Blackpool, Running fine till I got to Worksop.
Started misfiring again but made Blackpool.
Still no sign of the headgasket blowing.
On the way home it became obvious that it was not going to get home, managed to get off the M6 into the services, It was then obvious the gasket was blowing, all down the nearside, and half the bonnet was covered in water / antifreeze.
Even then it was not evident as to were the water had come from, thought it might be blowing back through the carbs.
Called AA, he comented about the oil filler tower being loose, when I demonstarted that it just pulls out you could see, and feel, the blow.
So Relay, breakdown about 3pm Sunday arrived home 13:40 Monday.
Change the gasket Yesterday, all seemed fine, off the the club meet, all the symptems back and to add to that overheating, which over the past few weeks including Blackpool didn't happen, round trip 3 miles,
Had a bit of a play today, off to check in a minute.

| New update (is that too soon) Missed yesterdays update. Checked the head bolts, needed another half turn each to re-torque, Must check them after a week or two, a few times. Checked the timing, the timing seemed a bit too advanced, must have knocked it out of true, re-set checked the fuel mixture again, colour tune, was spot on. Seemed to have been sorted runs and revs fine (as it has done each time I've done anything) I was going to give it a test last eve/night but too wet. Nice morning this morning (not raining) so lets see. Pushed the car onto the drive, started her up Misfire, so did the usual checks, fuel mix OK, timing OK, change plugs still misfiring Pulled each plug lead AGAIN! aha! number three plug/lead as I pulled it off the misfire stopped for a second then reappeared with the lead off, push back on, yes/no, found if I hold the lead of but close enough no misfire. Change number three plug, So off round the village, no overheating, no misfire no problems (I hope) So will be out a few times before the weekend, gently (yer sure), to make sure all is 99.9%. I wonder what the chances are of a duff plug, Oldun OK, but a new one as well? - and the condenser (forgot to mention the new one lasted two days) Fuel being filthy, the float chamber was filthy. and the head gasket all in a fortnight and all pointing at each other as the problem. And I wonder why I own a classic | |

| Off the road again Out for a meet last evening, some orribleeeeee noises that seemed to be emanating from the starter motor. There is usually a screw type end on the shaft, other end from the Bendix, it looked like it had gone walkabout. Managed to get home, venue only 30 minutes from home. Got home and it sounded worse. What looks like a load of fine swarf all down that side of the engine this morning, My thought was there is nowhere it could come from the starter, sealed all round, Anyway had the starter off and there is nowhere the end screw would fit, stripped and no sign of a problem. Generator off to check that, sounds like the bearings are shot, got a spare in bits, so will rebuild and use that, should be done after lunch. Why do we run classics | |

| Over a year now.
Had an engine change from e93a to 100e. Had to modify the sump, twice, had to grind a bit off the e93a front chain cover so I can use the old engine mount. I have had it running, and all seemed fine, sounded sweet. Then had carburetter problems, one had started to leak / over flow so I have stripped them. Also ordered a pair of new needles as it has been running rich for ages. Got the needles out, contacted Burlen fuels, they are wrong needles for the 1172 ford side valve. Buggered up the seals, wasn't too careful as I had ordered a couple of sets of repair kits only to find out too late 'out of stock'. There doesn't seem to be any world wide, been all over, America, Australia Canada and Europe. Burlen stated to me four weeks, everywhere else says five weeks.
Good bit of news though, finally got a four speed gearbox, the measurements - diameter and bolt spacing are the same, rear mount looks an easy mod, after having a look at a manual mounts might be even easier. the gearbox is Morris 8 E series, just need a top cover and gearstick.

I'll contact them as another source of parts.
Phoned Burlen fuels (SU) yesterday, service kits should be ready this week, they have me down on their computer to contact me as soon as kits are ready.
Got almost the whole fuel system out of the car, making a plank to go on top of the tank to support the body, I keep denting it when getting in and out, moved the fuel pump, all new fuel pipes, braided in the engine bay, got to make a stainless heat shield. Got a gearbox to modify and make mounts for. Got to find my brain haha
Thanks for the link I'll email them now.
Have been contemplating changing to a different carb, it'll have to be SU as there is very little room for anything else. Mine are MC2's used by Aeriel and Triumph motor bikes. I think Norton used them as well.
